Another highlight of the event was the “belonging net” 🥅 that we all created under the guidance of Josefine Schulze from WOMENTOR to kick-off the event and “break the ice 🧊 ” . Each of their experiences and personalities were unique and necessary for creating impactful memories 🥹✨.
So can we belong without othering❔Answering this raises the question of why are we seeking to belong? Usually it comes from fear 😨 , anger 😠, experiences where we feel the need to convene in spaces we can feel empowered, supported, heard, not “othered” 🤍. If there is one thing all of us agreed on, it is that nothing is black or white ☯️. So answering this question is surely not straightforward.
As a community builder through Diaspora Creatives, the answer could be ‘probably not’ but it is critical not to forget the intent behind this search to belong 🤍✨. In instances where the need arises, diaspora people for example, need to reconvene in spaces, communities where they are seen as individuals, human; and not as IMMIGRANTS, OUTSIDERS, with approaches full of STEREOTYPES, BIASES 🛑. They simply need to belong. Diaspora Creatives‘ work aim to provide such possibilities for all creatives of the diaspora in the forms of narratives, access to opportunities and spaces to belong and thrives rightfully and with equal chances 💎.

✨ It was an incredible experience making meaningful connections in an Afrocentric restaurant while celebrating the richness of African food. 🍲🌍
I had the chance to meet inspiring entrepreneurs who are passionate about taking African food products to new heights. 🚀 Despite the common challenge of **access to funding**, we all recognized another key issue—**the need for stronger support within Diaspora communities**. 💡
We also discussed the importance of **communication and branding** for African products. They deserve to be recognized and valued on the global stage, and creativity is essential in shaping a #PositiveNarrative for what’s truly “made by Diaspora.” 🌍✨
